A lexical is a container for words belonging to the same language
Lexical knowledge :
The
study such things as what words are, how the vocabulary in a language
is structured, how people use and store words, how they learn words,
the history and evolution of words
Lexical words are those that have idependent meaning.
Noun (N), verb (V), adjective (A), adverb (Adv), preposition (P)
In
linguistic, the lexicon of language is its vocabulary, including its
words and expressions. Lexicon is container for words belonging to same
language. When linguistics study the lexicon, they study such things as
what words are, how the vocabulary in a language is structured, how
people use and store words, how they learn words, the history and
evolution of words, types of relationship between words were created.
Example :
The lexicon of soccer (“football” outside the U.S) includes term such as linesman, friendly match, yellow card, penalty shootout, pitch, result and draw.
