Statistical
study to identify patterns or trends in a situation but not the cause and
effect (causal) linkages among its different elements. Descriptive studies
(such as a cross- sectional study) help in generating hypothesis on which further
research may be based descriptive studies include case reports case series, surveillance
system, Co-relational (sometimes called
ecological studies), cross-sectional studies and cluster investigations.
correlational
studies are used to look for relationship
between variables. There are three possible result of a correlational study: a
positive correlation, a negative correlation and no correlation. The coefficient
is a measure of correlation strength and can rare from -1.00 to +1.00
What is Positive Correlation?
It is both variable increase or decrease at the same time. A correlation
coefficient close to +1.00 indicates a strong positive correlation.
What is Negative Correlation?
Indicates that as the amount of one variable increase, the other
decreases (and vice versa). A correlation coefficient close to -1.00 indicates
a strong negative correlation.
What is No Correlation?
Indicates no relationship between the two variable. A correlation coefficient
of O indicates no correlation.
Types of correlation studies:
1). Naturalistic Observation
2). The survey Method
3). Archival Research
